SUSTAINABILITY
Ascophyllum nodosum is an inter-tidal seaweed found only in the pristine waters of the North Atlantic. In the unrelenting environment between the changing tides, Ascophyllum nodosum has developed a natural biochemistry that allows it to thrive & grow.
QUALITY
Ascophyllum nodosum has evolved a unique array of bioactive compounds that allow it to survive extreme climatic conditions ranging from immersion in temperate water to exposure to scorching sunshine or shoreline frost.
BEST PRACTICE
When submerged in water, Ascophyllum nodosum floats. Using purpose-built boats, our harvesters trim the top of the seaweed, leaving the seaweed to regrow & replenish within 2 years. This has been proven as the most sustainable method for harvesting seaweed.
SCALE
By maintaining a vertically integrated supply chain across harvesting, manufacturing, R&D and innovation, our customers have access to a reliable & consistent portfolio of technical ingredients backed by science, technical advice, and support to ensure optimum performance and efficiency within formulations.
The Isle of Lewis & Harris has extensive coastline & sea loughs. Islanders have been harvesting seaweed in the Outer Hebrides for generations. Like those before us, we are only passing through and have a responsibility to protect it for the next generation, and the next.
Looking after our source and managing it correctly is incredibly important to us. At Hebridean Seaweed, we work with several local government bodies to ensure correct measurement & management of the resource.
